Thomm’s
studio, TJ Tunes, is located 25 minutes from downtown Nashville,
on the edge of Mt. Juliet, within 5 minutes walking distance
from beautiful Percy Priest Lake, off the main roads, on a remote,
quiet street.
The
warm feel of a Log Home, a swimming pool and spa on a spacious
2.5 acre lot, surrounded by cedar trees make TJ Tunes an ideal
place for working in a relaxed, personal atmosphere.
Hotels,
Restaurants and a huge variety of shops are only 10 minutes
away at Providence Market Place.
Thomm
says:
“I
work on a lot of different projects at the same time, that keeps
things fresh for me.
We
often finish a whole record within 8-10 days which makes it
easier for people from overseas who come here to record.
I
try to track live as much as possible, I have 3 rooms, so I
can get enough separation. I don’t worry about bleed too much,
it’s part of getting the kind of sound I want.
If
somebody wants total separation I can make that happen too.
The
players I use are all world class and they’re my friends too.
We never stress over things here, we don’t watch the clock,
it’s all very friendly and relaxed.
I
love working with singer-songwriters, it’s one of the greatest
things in the world to watch a song grow in the studio to get
the best out of it – it’s really exciting and I take it very
seriously, the writers put their heart and soul into these songs.
It doesn’t matter if you’re working on a one-song demo or a
full record, you gotta give it everything you’ve got.
That
being said, I work on very diverse material here. Folk, Roots-Rock,
Americana, Instrumental records, Country, – I like it all.
I
think that what makes recording here interesting to people is
that they can get my producing, engineering and playing plus
the studio and a team of world-class players that work together
all the time. We definitely have developed our own sound here
and I take care of all the coordinating, booking the players,
renting extra gear if needed, tracking at a bigger facility
if necessary, etc.
Working
out here there are no distractions, other than the dogs and
wanting to go for a swim in the lake or the pool.”
