Jutz - "Work"
Thomm Jutz moved to Nashville 8 years ago and has since then produced
well over 50 records for other artists (including Nanci Griffith,
Otis Gibbs, European start Marc Marshall, etc), landed a publishing
deal with renowned publishing company Brumley Music, toured extensively
all over the world and has written over 300 songs.
His
earthy sounding new album "Work" features 15 of these
songs
Jutz's
guitar playing is featured front, left and center. There's no guitar
pyrotechnics here, his playing is subtle and always makes the song
the star of the show, a fact that made Jutz the guitarist of choice
for some of Americana music's finest like Nanci Griffith, Mary Gauthier,
David Olney, Steve Young, etc...
Although
by no means a concept album, images and themes from the American
South are running through almost all of Jutz's songs on this record.
Jimmie Rodgers, Huck Finn and Aunt Polly, the New Orleans and Northeastern
Railroad and the mighty Mississippi river, Alabama fields and Carolina
sands and the faith of an old Georgia mountain woman - they all
have a place and a voice in the landscape of this record.
Supported
by a cast of great Nashville's musicians, drummers Pat McInerney,
Dion Clay and Lynn Williams, Mark Fain and JT Brown on bass, Fats
Kaplin and Robby Turner on Steel and Shadd Cobb on Fiddle, and last
but not least his songwriting partner Peter Cronin on harmony vocals,
Jutz moves effortlessly between Country and
Roots Rock sounds to Bluegrass and aggressive 4 piece rock band
material.
After
22 years as a sideman Jutz is taking center stage with a smart but
understated record for mature people.
